Welcome to the Tasman Drama Production project 2024!
The project takes place over three weeks in April-May 2024 in Motueka. The first week is a series of drama skills workshops for children and young people aged 8-18 in age-banded groups. Senior students (aged 12-18) work for two full days on improvisation, devising, voice and silent acting skills.
The other two weeks contain an intensive stage performance project for 20 local young people, working from a 60-page script towards three performances of a 75-minute comedy play (on May 17th & 18th).
There are eighteen character parts all with 25+ lines. The cast members learn and operate many aspects of theatre production including full stage management of the performances, lighting and sound design and operation, costuming, scene blocking, line-learning, character development.
The project is directed by Douglas Roberts, a writer and theatre director visiting from Scotland, who has successfully offered similar projects in Auckland locations for the past sixteen years, working with over 300 children and young people in that time. He works with similar projects in Scotland and England each year.
There will be 3 performances of the show:
